I’m often asked what paints colours I recommend to my clients when preparing their home for sale…well here they are!
Benjamin Moore paints are by far the best product on the market for colour selection and quality. The general rule of thumb is it’s safe to use anything in the neutral spectrum. However, that can include shades of taupe’s and browns, which can often dull-down a room and make it appear smaller if you’re not careful. Rooms with big windows and lots of natural light, may be able to take these darker neutral shades, but small rooms dressed with furniture won’t be as forgiving. Therefore, it’s always a good idea to check with a home staging professional before starting to paint or stick to my fab four favourites!
Remember, that kitchens and bathrooms are two of the biggest selling features of a house, so by painting these rooms in shades of white, will create a feeling of cleanliness that buyers will love.
These four are also not just colours I use for staging a home, but can also be used effectively in redesign projects. One of my favourite looks for a room is to stick to light neutral colours on the walls, giving you free rein to accent with whatever colours you like in fabrics, textures and accessories. It also makes it easier to swap out should you ever feel like a change in décor or if you’re a seasonal home decorator.
Living with neutral walls could also save you a lot of time and effort should you ever have the need to quickly turn your home around and sell it!
