I started experimenting with all-natural cleaning when we were expecting our daughter 5 years ago and I’ve never gone back. I created four awesomely simple, homemade cleaning solutions that I love!
About a month before she was due to arrive, the ‘nesting effect’ that everyone kept telling me about, really took hold! The bulk freezer-food making, the urge to finish every little D.I.Y project around the house and baby-proofing every outlet and kitchen cupboard, but what I wasn’t totally expecting, was how conscious I started feel about the laundry and cleaning chemicals around the house.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: Should we be talking all-natural cleaning with a virus lurking around? Yes. As many scientists have informed us, washing with soap stops the spread of the virus and Castile soap is just as effective. That’s the beauty of it. You get all the benefits of germ-fighting without the risk to your health—something the CDC has been happily promoting ahead of hand sanitizer to fight this pandemic.
I honestly can’t remember where these recipes came from exactly but I had just started to learn about Doterra essential oils at the time, so I think they’re a hybrid of research and lessons passed down through generations. I hope you enjoy!
Here are the 6 all-natural ingredients you will need:
Castile soap
Borax
Essential oils
Vinegar
Baking Soda
Water
*You will also need a spray bottle. I use the Zep commercial 25 fl.oz size from Canadian Tire*
MY HOMEMADE ALL-NATURAL CLEANING RECIPES
SCRUBBING CLEANER
At the risk of sounding like a cliche cleaning commercial, this scrub cleaner is amazing for getting rid of hard water stains and bringing your stainless and chrome back to it’s shiny self!
In an old Tupperware container mix together:
- 3/4 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup Castile soap
- 2 tbsp water
- 10 drops of essential oil (I use On Guard blend by Doterra)
GLASS CLEANER
Tip: Use the Scotch-Brite glass cleaning cloths with this spray. They’re the best for glass cleaning by far!
In an 25 fl. oz spray bottle mix together:
- 1/4 fill bottle white vinegar water
- 1 drop of castile soap
- Fill rest of bottle with water
- 15 drops lemon essential oil
FLOOR CLEANER
Tip: You can pour this solution straight into the bottle of a Vileda Spray Mop, instead of carrying a spray bottle while you mop!
In an 25 fl. oz spray bottle/or Vileda Spray Mop bottle mix together:
- 1/4 cup castile soap
- 1/2 fill bottle with water
- 1/2 fill bottle with white vinegar
- 20 drops of tea tree essential oil
MULTI-PURPOSE CLEANER
In an 25 fl. oz spray bottle mix together:
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsps borax
- 1 drop of castile soap
- 1 drop of white vinegar
- Fill rest of bottle with hot water
- 5 drops of essential oil (I use On Guard blend by Doterra)
