Project Young Street
How is it already the end of August ?? I don’t know about you, but I feel like my summer absolutely flew by. There’s definitely a hard balance between trying to pack your weekends with cottages, beaches and day trips all while trying to relax and enjoy the nice weather for the very short time we have it. Not that I don’t love a good cozy sweater, and fall fashion, but there is just something about summer that has my heart.
Anyway, over here we have been enjoying a different side to summer; all of the fantastic projects that came to a close this month. It’s always bittersweet closing projects with clients, but the end result is always worth it. Knowing we have helped them to create a space they love and are proud to call home is the best feeling.
One of my favourite projects we completed this summer is a new build with Worton Homes. Worton Homes is a builder in the Guelph area who specializes in custom homes. We have worked with Grant the owner, on several projects and are always so incredibly impressed by their craftsmanship and high quality work. Seriously, if you are looking for a kick ass builder, look no further!!
For Project Young Street, we were brought in at the very beginning. The first step of the process was to assist with the Exterior Design. This is often an area of design that gets forgotten about or pushed to the side. We always aim to ensure the exterior and interior design cohesively exist.
Here is an example of how the process started; preliminary plans that eventually got tweaked into the last rendering. Sometimes it just takes a few revisions to get it just right!

Next up, exterior selections! Due to the neighbourhood Young Street is located in, we wanted to keep our selections cohesive with the existing home, while still offering a bit of a contrast. We kept with a traditional style brick and stone, and highlighted it with black windows and wooden siding.
For the siding, we went a little unique and decided to continue it all along the left side of the house. This gave it a bit of a west coast feel. I absolutely love how it turned out. Sometimes you have to push the envelope and step out of your comfort zone. Custom homes are meant to be just that, custom!
Next up was the Interior Materials and Finishes. We were so inspired by the west coast inspired exterior, that we wanted to incorporate some interior elements with the same vibe. Have a look!

Thanks to our friends at Tile and Stone in Vaughn for this gorgeous porcelain slab. It was the perfect feature to add some texture and interest in this space. We knew we wanted to go with something unique and flashy to contrast the contemporary flooring and this was the perfect piece. TIP: Going with a porcelain product as opposed to a natural stone can dramatically save you money, all while attaining the same look!
Kitchen:
We had so much fun designing this kitchen with BND woodworks. Our first selection was this tile we picked up at Sarmazians… Isn’t it to die for?!
It inspired a monochromatic look with gold details. The black island grounds the space, while highlighting these funky Kicheler pendants! This kitchen is an entertainers dream… I’d be hosting cocktails parties every weekend if I lived here!!

So clean and fresh! These 24×24 ceramic tiles are a concrete look alike. They were the perfect touch to add in some texture.
Who needs paint anymore? Tiled walls are all the rage in bathrooms right now. Not only are they easy to clean, but they also look fantastic and add an element of interest to your space. This geometric tile looks different from every angle and I seriously can’t stop staring…..
Well, that’s a wrap on Young Street! I was sad to see this beauty go, but so happy for its new owners to take it over and make it their own. Mind you, I may be wishing that new owner was me…. but oh well, maybe the next one ;)!
